Future world
I attended an interesting evening seminar this week. It talked about lessons from the future. No crystal ball thinking but the impression that an economic tsunami is coming and that the past will not teach us anything about the future. Unprecedented change fuelled by technology, globalisation and deregulation but – most importantly – by the revolution of the empowered individual. One individual launched the Arabic Spring through Facebook and overturned a whole government and country.

Some points stood out that play into our hands as a company:
Everything that can be automated will be automated – exactly what we as IT service provider try to do
Organisations will be distributed and networked rather than hierarchical and regulated – exactly how we are evolving as an organisation
Three people aspects in such organisations that will become important – exactly what we are measuring and working on to develop
Skills will be more important than Knowledge because knowledge is widely accessible
Experience is great but it will be Attitude that makes the difference
Leadership as quality at all levels of an organisation will supersede old-style hierarchical Management
